eXp Realty Launches Agent Ownership Initiative

 

Multiple Stock Ownership Opportunities Available to Cloud Brokerage’s Agents

BELLINGHAM, WA – March 25, 2014 – eXp Realty International Corporation (OTCBB: EXPI), the Real Estate Cloud Brokerage, announced today the launch of an Agent Ownership initiative that provides a number of opportunities for agents and brokers to become significant shareholders in the Company.

“The greatest asset that any real estate brokerage possesses is the group of agents and brokers who are a part of it. In our view, those agents and brokers should be owners and beginning today at eXp Realty, they will be,” said eXp Realty President Jason Gesing, during a Special Meeting of the Company inside its Cloud Office on Friday.

The new initiative has multiple components but beginning today and retroactive to January 1, 2014 the Company will issue 100 shares of stock to each agent and broker for their first transaction in 2014. The Company will also issue 1000 shares to any agent who caps in 2014. 1000 shares will also be issued to any agent or broker who attracts another agent into the Company upon the closing of that new agent’s first transaction.

Each of these awards will be made as a part of a formal stock compensation plan to be adopted later in the year. The Company also anticipates adopting a voluntary program (technically an “ESOP”) pursuant to which agents and brokers will be allowed voluntarily to contribute a portion of commission dollars and/or revenue sharing dollars to the purchase of Company stock at a discount.

“Our status now as a public company really allows us to build a brokerage that is owned by its agents. We have put together some pretty unique opportunities for all of our agents, as well as for iconic agents in their marketplaces and for brokerage owners,” said Gesing. “We believe that this, in addition to our aggressive gross revenue sharing plan, is just one more way in which our agents can achieve financial independence.”

Recently, the Company incentivized the migration of a 19 agent brokerage firm in Atlanta, Georgia using stock as a leverage point in combination with the value propositions of the Company’s core business model. Since the team in Atlanta joined eXp Realty, the size of the Company’s agent and broker population in the region has doubled and the Company has retained 100% of the agents in the region.

What Is Your Exit Strategy?

True, residual income programs that encourage company growth are not new. The rub lies right there in the name; profit share. eXp Realty has revenue share.  Profit share derives from a complicated equation based on agent recruits, company growth and individual office profitability. It is an equation that is barely understood, even by those who sing its praises to potential recruits…and it doesn’t pay much, especially when the office you work in isn’t making money. The eXp Realty revenue share program pays you residual income from your recruits regardless of office or company profitability. They make money – you make money.

It works like this: If you recruit an agent, you receive 3.5% of their gross commission. Period. Better yet, you keep receiving that amount on each of their transactions until they’ve paid their annual company cap of $16k. If you recruit at least 5 agents yourself, you then receive 4% from the commissions of any agents your recruits have recruited. If you recruit at least 10 agents, you not only receive the 4% from second-level recruits, but also another 2.5% from third level recruits! And it keeps going for seven levels! If you clicked through to this page you obviously have in interest in researching either other firms or another concept.   That’s great.

Many Ways to Learn at eXp Realty

Education is a priority and business is changing at breakneck speed. Most companies become dinosaurs not long after their launch as a company while other, more nimble, players exploit weaknesses in information flow, newer less expensive technology or talent and generally speaking simply out-hustle the competition. Information on best practices no longer comes from the top of the organization. Often those best practices come from the middle or from new players who have recently joined. Why is a South Carolina Agent Advertising Here?

Working the traditional way in the real estate business an agent is locked into only working in their immediate area.  That’s because the traditional way of doing business is only to sell or list properties.

Is Your Real Estate Business Growing?

How Are You Running Your Business Now

Think about how you do business now.  Do you find that you spend more time working from home than you do from your broker’s office?  Most agents have adapted that concept as a way to eliminate the cost of desk fees and other fees charged by their firm.   My question is has your broker increased your commission split since you are not using his resources?  Probably not.

We are independent contractors in our industry.  Unfortunately many agents don’t adapt that reality well enough.  Instead they hold on to a firm with the hope that the national brand name, or referrals from that company will sustain them in the business.

It’s Up To You To Generate Your Own Business

Truth of the matter is that you are an independent contractor which means that it is up to you to generate your own business.  Years ago when the industry was booming it was great going to the office and catching a few calls, getting some stray leads.  It is different now.  We need to generate our own business and most brokers, even large firms are lost with how to teach their agents ways to do that. Thats why we are seeing more and more firms, even big name companies, close their doors.  The agents are left floundering around trying to find a place to hang their license and learn new ways to generate income.  Most of them move their license from one sinking ship to another.

Possibly you agree with me and see that the industry is changing.  The bricks and mortar concept of doing real estate is going by the way side and a new format of operating the business is emerging.
